Dr Glenn Nielsen is a Senior Lecturer in Neurological Physiotherapy at St George’s University of London and a clinical physiotherapist at St George’s University Hospital. He completed his undergraduate physiotherapy training at Curtin University of Western Australia in 2004 and started his career at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. In 2007 he relocated to the UK and was employed as an expert physiotherapist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. He completed his PhD at the UCL Institute of Neurology in 2017, which focused on developing and assessing the efficacy of interventions for people with functional motor disorders.
He was the lead investigator for the NIHR funded multicentre randomised controlled trial of specialist physiotherapy for functional motor disorder (Physio4FMD.org). He is currently leading a series of studies exploring functional somatosensory symptoms, which is funded by an HEE/NIHR Clinical Lectureship. He is also a collaborator on an Australian study exploring psilocybin assisted therapy for functional neurological disorder. He co-leads the UK AHP FND Network (ahpfndnetwork.org) and is on the board of directors for the international Functional Neurological Disorder Society.
